February 27, 1928 – May 12, 2018
Edward Neal Erickson of Superior peacefully passed away on May 12, 2018, at the age of 90. While his strength and spirit will be greatly missed, he will remain alive in the hearts and minds of all who were blessed to have known him.
Ed was born in Beloit, Wisconsin on February 27, 1928, and raised in Superior, the son of Walter and Grace Erickson. He proudly earned his Eagle Scout rank as a young man. After graduating from Superior Central High School in 1945, Ed enlisted in the US Navy serving his country during World War II. After returning home, Ed attended the Wisconsin State University-Superior, until joining the Army Air Corps in 1947. He honorably served his country as a navigator and weather officer for over 22 years of active duty which included assignments in the European & Pacific theaters and combat missions during the Vietnam War. Upon his retirement from the US Air Force in 1970, Ed had the distinction of having served with honor in the Navy, Army and Air Force.
After retiring, Ed and his family returned to Milwaukee where he worked for Milwaukee County and the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, ensuring that those who had served their country received their benefits. In 1993, Ed moved back to Superior where he was a member of the VFW, Elks Lodge, Masons, Shriner's and served on the Superior City Council from 1997-2002. He had a lifelong love of the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as being an accomplished private pilot.
Ed treasured his community, friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Belinda "Bea" Erickson, his daughter Jill Erickson, sons Chris (wife Suzanne) and Mike Erickson. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Sarah Bates (husband Ellet), Ian MacGregor (wife Allison), Kaitlyn Erickson, Madeline Erickson, Samantha Erickson and Garrett Erickson. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jackie MacGregor.
