Obituary

Edward "Eddy" Roy Esselstrom, 63, of Duluth, MN, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

Ed was born on July 5, 1958, in Duluth to Dalphy and Dorothy Gail Esselstrom. He graduated from Duluth East High School, where he was the star trumpet player and his love of music blossomed. After high school, Ed went on to become a paramedic and proudly served for 30 years with Gold Cross, Duluth. Throughout his career as an ambulance paramedic, Ed's passion for music was also a constant in his life. He played bass and horn in a number of popular Twin Ports bands including, Search, Topaz, Mynx, Port Authority and most recently The Mackie Brothers. Not only was Ed an incredibly gifted musician, but his talents also reached around to the other side of the sound board. When he wasn't performing onstage, you could find Ed behind the board doing live front of house sound for bands across the Twin Ports. When he wasn't working, Ed loved being in the great outdoors. He was an avid camper, Harley Davidson enthusiast, and like most Duluthians, he loved spending time on Lake Superior.

While looking back on the life of Ed Esselstrom, one thing is for certain – he was beloved by his friends, family, and his community. "Positive," "professional," and "kind," are three common words spoken about Ed among those who knew him. His smile always lit up the room and he was just an all around cool guy – so friendly, so caring, so loving to those around him. To quote his son, Eric: "To some he was a best friend, the life of the party, the skier, the mountain biker. We're all going to miss you. Rest in peace, dad."

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Dalphy and Dorothy Gail (Jordan) Esselstrom.

He is survived by his son, Eric (Jillian Rae) Martin of Minneapolis; brothers, Warren (Richard) Esselstrom of Las Vegas, Eric (Pamela) Esselstrom of Duluth, and Dean Esselstrom of Florida.
