Obituary

Edwin Thomas Johnson, affectionately known as Tom, died Tuesday July 22, 2025, in Cedar Park, Texas.

Tom was born on September 27, 1937, in a log cabin in Foxboro, Wisconsin, to Francis Lucille Slovik, and Edwin Eric Johnson. In 1953, when Tom was just 16, his family relocated to Grand Forks, North Dakota. At the age of 17, he honorably joined the U.S. Navy, serving for five years.

After concluding his military service in September 1962, Tom embarked on a career in the jewelry industry. He began in New Orleans, then moved to Mobile, Alabama, before ultimately settling in Maryland, where he met his wife of 29 years, Mary. In 1969, the couple packed all their belongings and their infant son into the back seat of their car, embarking on a journey to Fort Worth, Texas—a place Tom would come to call his "Forever Home State."

For three decades, Tom traveled extensively across Texas, establishing new jewelry stores before transitioning to the wholesale side of the business, where he traveled throughout the Southwest. After retiring from the industry, Tom, never one to sit idly, became a trusted courier for the Nyle Maxwell family of Automobiles until his second retirement at the age of 80.

In his lifetime, Tom cultivated countless friendships through his travels and adventures. His legacy will endure through his family and the many lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Joyce Johnson Ferraro; his son, Robert Thomas (Tommy) Johnson; his father, Edwin Eric Johnson; and mother, Francis Lucille Schmisek; also proceeding him were his sister, Delores Paschke; and his sister-in-law, Alleen Johnson.

Tom is survived by his son, Jesse George Johnson, and his wife, Dawn; his daughters-in-law, Tammy Johnson and Stephanie Johnson; and his grandchildren, Ashley (Justin) Casey, Amy Johnson, Andi Johnson, Lilly Ferraro, Austin Johnson, Christian Johnson, Cienna Johnson, Marcus Johnson, Brayden Johnson, and Emmett Johnson. He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren; his brother, Dennis Johnson; his sisters, Beverly Johnson, Kathy (Eric) Holck and Barbara (Terry) Gotziaman; and five nieces and three nephews.

A special thanks goes out to New Century Hospice for their superb care, Nicole Hernandez, who was so much more than "just an aid" to Tom. We cannot close without a special shout out to Tammy Johnson, who guided us through it all. Tammy was always there when we needed her, and to Stephanie Johnson who was truly the best caregiver that money cannot buy.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 5th at 1:00 p.m. at Summit Cemetery, Summit Township, WI, with Gary Banker as officiant.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Leander, Texas. Rest in peace, Tom Johnson.
