Elaine L. Howes, 85, of Superior, Wis., died Wed., July 6, 2011 in her residence.
She was born in Webster, Wis. to Nina (Bergman) and Sherman Bergstrom on Aug. 25, 1925 and moved to Superior as a small child.
In 1947 she was united in marriage to Eugene G. Howes.
During WWII she was employed at the Fraser Shipyard as a welder. The employment she enjoyed the most was working with young children, first as a kindergarten aide at the former Ericsson Elementary School and lastly as a "Grandma" at the Children's Corner Day Care. Children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.
She enjoyed working puzzles with her friend, Rose Dalton; playing bingo; going for walks; holiday celebrations, especially the 4th of July and attending the parade; and visiting with family and friends. She was extremely proud of her collection of trolls.
She was a member of the former St. Louis Catholic Church and currently is a member of Cathedral Of Christ The King. In her later years she attended Memory Lane.
Elaine is lovingly remembered by her sons, Darrell and Gene Howes of Superior, and David Howes of Duluth, Minn.; daughters, Bonnie Lehner, Debra Howes, Laurie Verlooy and Yvonne O'Campo all of Superior; 34 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers, Myron Bergstrom of Superior and Lloyd Bergstrom of Madison, Wis.; sisters, Beatrice Leneman of Maine and JoAnne Beck of Cromwell, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; sons, Dennis, William "Peco" and Robert "Bobby" Howes; a daughter, Kathryn Marie Howes; a grandson, Danny Howes Mosack; sisters, June, Betty, Maye and Donna; and a brother, Reuben.
Visitation will be Wed., July 13th in Cathedral Of Christ The King from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral mass with Rev. Fr. Andrew P. Ricci as celebrant. Committal prayers will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
If desired, memorials in Elaine's name may be made to either the Alzheimer's Association or Cathedral Of Christ The King.
