Elise Mary Louise Marion, 84, took the hand of our Lord on Sat., Nov. 2, 2013 at her home, The Lighthouse of Superior.
Elise was born Sept. 27, 1929 In Superior, Wis. to Octaaf and Emelie VanVynckt. She married Carl Marion on Oct. 25, 1952 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage before his passing in 2003.
She graduated from East High School in 1947 and began her career at VanVynckt Candy and Tobacco Wholesale in Superior. She became co-owner with her brother, George VanVynckt and in 1991 they sold the company to Elise's daughter, Carla Marion and her nephew, Jerry VanVynckt.
Elise was a devout Catholic. Throughout her life she was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King, St. Patrick's and most recently, Holy Assumption.
She was a very active member of the United Commercial Travelers of America, serving as Senior Counselor of Superior, Grand Counselor of the State of Wisconsin and Supreme Counselor of the United States and Canada. She was also active in the Elk's, volunteered in the gift shop at Essentia Health-Superior, and she loved to travel with the Prime Timer's Club through the National Bank of Commerce. Elise loved shopping, reading, playing bingo, decorating for the holidays, especially Christmas, baking, cooking and serving her family. In earlier years she loved spending time in Naples, Fla. and traveling with Carl and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl; her parents; a brother, George VanVynckt; a sister, Violet "Lee" Ellis; a brother-in-law, Larry Ellis; and a sister-in-law, Carol Garcia.
She is survived by two daughters, Carla Marion and Brenda (Jerry) Wiisanen; grandchildren, Jason and Nathan Bennett, Brian Rusk, Jodie (Phil) Metz and Stacy (Chad) Lowney; great-grandchildren, Lakota Bennett, Payton and Paige Rusk, Mason and Landon Metz and Dakota Lowney; a sister-in-law, Kathlyn VanVynckt; and several nieces and nephews.
Her memorial service will be held Sat., Nov. 9th at 11:00 a.m. at The Lighthouse of Superior, 1915 N. 34th St. The family requests memorials be given to St. Luke's Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
Elise's family wishes to thank Dr. Kurt Kamper, the Lighthouse of Superior and their staff and St. Luke's Hospice for their caring support and kindness during Elise's last few weeks of life.
