Elmer E. Erickson, 80, of South Range, died Friday, July 29, 2011 at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Range, Wisconsin.

He was born December 13, 1930 in Superior, son of Freda (Swickard) and E. Erickson.

Elmer served his country and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps.

On November 27, 1952 in Superior, Elmer E. Erickson and Shirleyan Parker were united in marriage.

His work history included the LST & T Railroad and the Great Northern then Burlington Northern Railroad. He worked as a switchman for over 38 years.

Elmer was a member of the United Transportation Union.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and playing Bingo.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, William in 1975; grandson, Cpl. Kenneth Cross in Iraq, 2006; sister, Dolores Hanson; and brothers, Frank Sislo, Lloyd Peterson and Norman Erickson.

Survivors include his wife of over 58 years, Shirleyan; daughters, Elizabeth (Michael) Cross, South Range, A. Ann (Martin) Nelson, Joella (Kevin) Lindquist, Margaret Jorgenson and Mary Makowsky, all of Superior; sons, Charles (Cathy) Erickson and John (Patti) Erickson, both of South Range; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Stanley Sislo, Superior; nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Evelyn Ellis.

A memorial service will held at the Parkland Town Hall, 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, with Wesley Koehler officiating.

Private inurnment services will be held at St. Francis Cemetery, Superior, with military rites accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post # 435, at a later date.

Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements.
