Elsa M. Nord, 84, of Superior, died Friday, May 11, 2012 in the Memory Shores unit at Golden Living Center, Superior.
She was born February 2, 1928 in Iron Belt, Wisconsin, daughter of Kaino and Aina (Kangas) Reinikainen.
Elsa was the valedictorian of her high school class and attended Superior State Teacher's College.
On May 10, 1947, Elsa married Albert Nord at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Superior.
In addition to raising her family, she worked at Bingham Hardware, Cooper School and Duluth Avionics.
Elsa was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church and the Altar Guild, choir and quilters. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, P.T.A. and was a cubscout den mother. She loved babies, playing the piano, sewing, cooking, reading, crossword puzzles and collecting cookbooks. Her homemade bread and apple pie were legendary.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Albert in 2005; two sons, Paul William and Timothy John; and two brothers, Lee and Esko Reinikainen.
Survivors include four daughters, Karen (Jack) Rokser, Chippewa Falls, WI, Sherry Nord, Superior, Anita (Bill) Maki, Superior, and Jan (Jim Merritt) Nord, Superior; three sons, Al (Ellen Oaks) Nord, Superior, David (Dana) Nord, Solon Springs, WI, and Thomas (Barb) Nord, St. Paul, MN; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Veikko Reinikainen, Marshfield, WI; two sisters, Laura (Ray) Eden, Salem, OR, and Eila Thomas, Ironwood, MI, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, and will resume at 1 until the 2 p.m. service Wednesday, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 820 Belknap Street, Superior. Reverend Will Mowchan will officiate.
Committal prayers will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, at a later date.
