Obituary

Erving L. Johnson, 84, of Superior, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016 after a short stay at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.

Erving was born in Superior on July 14, 1932 the son of Lloyd and Ragnhild Johnson.

He graduated from Superior Central High School with the class of 1950. He worked for the Railroad prior to enlisting in the Air Force. After returning from service he worked at Amoco for 35 years retiring as Terminal Manager in Superior.

He was a member of Our Redeemer's Free Lutheran Church and the American Legion.

Erving enjoyed playing softball and bowling for Bud's Sunnyside and also enjoyed going to the casino. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and loved watching the game with his son Paul at home or the Belknap Lounge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Dawn M. Bangs; brothers, Cliff and Milton Johnson; and a sister, Marlene Johnson.

Erving is survived by his wife of 51 years, Iris; children, Linda (William) Eckstrom of Becker, MN, Paulette Smith of Superior, Paul (Vicki) Smith of Duluth, David (Eunice) Smith of Austin, TX, and Ginny (Erik Quinn) Freeman of Superior; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Lindberg of Superior; brother, David Johnson of Superior; sister-in-law, Nada Johnson of Superior and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, Dec. 16 from 5-7 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19 th St. and Ogden Ave. Visitation will continue on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 11 a.m. until the Noon funeral service Noon at Our Redeemer's Free Lutheran Church, 2125 Missouri Ave in Superior. Pastor Daniel Proffit will officiate.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.

Pallbearers will be, Sam Freeman, Paul Smith, Erik Quinn, Richard Rinnet, Daniel Rinnet, William Eckstrom and Lance Mosier.
