Hoeffling
August 2, 1926 – May 10, 2024
Eugene L. Hoeffling, 97, formerly of Iron River, WI, died Friday May 10, 2024, at Twin Ports Health Services in Superior.
He was born in Iron River on August 2,1926, the son of Pearl (Mitchell) and Louis Hoeffling.
Eugene and Mary Louise Harvey were united in marriage on August 7, 1946, in Superior, and they enjoyed over 76 years of marriage before her passing on April 19, 2023.
Gene proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy. His work history includes sailing the Great Lakes at age 17, driving logging trucks, working for Superwood, the ore docks, and driving milk trucks. Gene was postmaster at the post office in Poplar and retired in 1987.
He and Mary wintered in Queen Valley, AZ, for many years and enjoyed square dancing and traveling together. He also enjoyed working on his hobby farm.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Mary; daughter, Linda Staxrud; son, Dan Hoeffling; grandson, Jason Hoeffling; great grandson, Christopher Hoeffling; great granddaughter, Zoe Tischler; brother, Robert Hoeffling, and sister, Gloria Stewart.
Survivors include his sons, Darrell (Gloria) Hoeffling, Mike (Radha) Hoeffling, and Brian (Pat) Hoeffling; daughter-in-law, Sue Hoeffling; son-in-law, Mike Staxrud; sister, Marion LePage; grandchildren, Jim (Marcy) Hoeffling, Shelly (Gregg) Tischler, Aaron (Alena) Hoeffling, Brent (Steph) Warren, Travis (Leanne) Warren, Danielle (David) Tribbey, Darren (Audra) Hoeffling, Lori Bean, Tom Staxrud, Charlotte (Douglas) Hanson, Stacey (Bob) Wallin, Michael (Melissa) Hoeffling Jr., Dion (Brianna) Hoeffling, Jessica Hoeffling, Josie (Doug) Haugen, Jamien Hoeffling, Jared Hoeffling, Megan (Tyler) Craven, and Elliott Hoeffling; 36 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1st, at the Northern Pines Golf Course and Event Center, 69420 Airport Road, Iron River, WI, with Rev. Mark Holmes officiating.
Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Iron River, with military honors accorded by V.F.W. Post #10197. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held at the Northern Pines Golf Course and Event Center.
