Eugene "Gene" J. Ovesen, Jr., 90, of Superior, died Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Superior Rehabilitation Center, Superior.

He was born July 4, 1928, in Superior, son of Eugene and Clara (Martinson) Ovesen.

Gene was a 1946 graduate of Superior Central High School.

On June 30, 1950, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Superior, Beverly R. Anderson and Eugene J. Ovesen, Jr., were united in marriage.

Gene was hired as a clerk with the Great Northern Railroad and retired as a marketing official with the Burlington Northern Railroad.

His memberships included Concordia Lutheran Church, B.P.O.E. #403, Superior Curling Club – where he was a lifetime member and past president, and Nemadji Men's Club.

He enjoyed cheering for all Wisconsin sports teams, however, his greatest love was being with and supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; 2 sisters, Elaine and Eugenia; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Frank Vashaw.

Survivors include his wife of over 68 years, Beverly "Bev" Ovesen; daughters, Kathleen (Scott) Peterson, Superior, and Susan (Tim) Shepard, Superior; 5 grandchildren, Tim (Quentin), Andy (Kori), Katie Rose (Jason), Adam (Donna) and Kyle (Megan); 7 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Charlee Rose, Ella, Briggs, Emma, Caleb, and Blair; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and David Johnson; and 7 nieces and nephews, Charleen, David, Eugene, Chuck, Buddy, Lance and Lee.

Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. service, Monday, May 6, 2019, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19 ^th Street, Superior, with Gary Banker officiating.

Following the service, everyone is invited to Concordia Lutheran Church for a luncheon.

Private burial services will take place this summer at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.

Should friends desire, memorials in Gene's name may be made to Superior High School Athletic Department or Concordia Lutheran Church.
