Fern A. Holmgren, 95, died Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Fern was born in Bone Lake Township, WI. on Nov. 14, 1916, the daughter of Marius and Mary Dueholm. Fern and her husband Gordon had lived many places throughout the world before settling in Superior in 1968.
She taught school in Polk County for four years. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she was active in the Mary Circle. She also belonged to the League of Women Voters, Grandmothers for Peace and the Democratic Party.
Fern loved being around children, attending church and her church friends. She also enjoyed baking and discussing politics and had worked on election boards.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon on January 26, 2003. Preceding Fern in death were her parents, two brothers; Harvey and Ralph, two sisters; Rose and Doris, and an infant son Marius.
Fern is survived by her children; Daniel (Reta) Holmgren of Palatine, IL., John (Candace) Holmgren of Plymouth, MN., Mary (James) Skerik of Washburn, Jill (David) Bruno and Doris (John) Roeber of Superior.
Also surviving Fern are grandchildren; Brian (Kristin) Larson, Charles (Piyamart) Holmgren, Gordon Holmgren, Tom (Betsy) Skerik, Emily Holmgren, Laura Holmgren, Lanse (Shantel) Roeber and Jake Roeber; 3 great-grandchildren, Britanee, Caleb and Madelyn; and her sister-in-law Margaret Holmgren.
Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1924 Wyoming Ave. Rev. Sarah Kerkes will be officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Bone Lake Township, WI.
If desired memorials in her name may be made to the League of Women Voters or Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
