Florence E. (Orner) Kinnear, age 95, Superior, WI passed away January 15, 2016.
She was born May 7, 1920 in Portland, North Dakota and moved to Superior in 1923 with her family, and was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Superior. She graduated from East High School, Superior, WI in 1938.
She held employment at Ritchie Abstract Co., Superior, and during World War II she worked in California for the Aluminum Co. of America, San Francisco Foreign Freight Forwarders, and Navy Overseas Freight Terminal. She was a volunteer for the USO as well as Hospitality House. After her return to Superior, and later Solon Springs, WI, she worked for Globe Shipbuilding, The Veterans Administration, the U.S. Postal Department, the Omaha Railroad, and the Solon Springs Telephone Company.
She enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and was awarded a Distinguished Service Award for work in the 1969 United Way campaign.
In 1955 she married Ray Kinnear and lived in Solon Springs, WI until after his death in 1984, when she moved back to Superior, WI.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Tom) Meier; grandson, Brian (Jenny) Osterheim; granddaughter, Sara (Nick) Bourg; 5 great-grandchildren (Melissa, Breanna, & Lily Osterheim, Ian and Jake Bourg); a godson, Bob Pavelec; a sister-in-law, Irene Michel; nieces, Florence Palm, Goldie Pavelec, Kay Pollock, Susan Burfield, Jan Lietha; nephews, Richard During, Les Herstad, Bruce Herstad, Eric Orner, John Kinnear, and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur & Gina Orner; husband, Ray Kinnear; grandson, Aaron Osterheim; great-grandson, Benjamin Osterheim; two sisters, Myrtle Dopp and Avis During; brothers, Ray Orner, Harlan Orner who died in infancy, and a stillborn, unnamed brother.
Downs Funeral Home is assisting the family. There will be no visitation. A committal service will be held on May 7th at 1:00 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Superior, WI.
