Obituary

Forrest Duane Terry, 89, left this life for better fishing  "Upstairs" on Sept. 29, 2018 at Essentia Health -St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth MN. He entered this world on Oct. 28, 1928 in Gordon WI, the second son of Jennie and Charles Terry.  He married the love of his life, Marion Edwards, on Dec. 21, 1951, after meeting her while he was in the army.

They resided in Superior for their entire marriage, and their family multiplied to four daughters: Nancy (David) Deda, Phillips WI; Cindy Terry, Robbinsdale MN; Linda (Rollan) Moriak, Mary Esther FL; Diane (Kevin) Kivisto, Superior WI. Add to that six grandchildren: Ben (Marianne) Deda, Beth (Ron) Swope, Tim Deda, Jason (Lyn) Moriak, Amber Moriak, Jonina (Bryan) Kenison…and eight great-grandchildren: Elijah, Lucas and Zachariah Swope, Shane Moriak, Adeline and Katherine Kenison, and Patrick and Callum Deda. Forrest will also be greatly missed by his sisters, Betty Johnson, Carol (Craig) Smith and Elaine (Bill) Bailey, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marion; brother, Robert Terry; and sister, June Warner.

He had an infectious laugh, was a lover of corny jokes, old TV shows, cowboy books, picking blueberries (and eating the pie!)…was a devoted husband (and digger of gardens), wonderful dad and a loving, fun grandpa. His working life was spent as a conductor and brakeman for the Soo Line Railroad.  He was an active member of the Darrow Road Wesleyan Church all his adult life and served as Sunday School superintendent for more years than we could count! He was well known for dispersing gummi worms to the kids, hence the "Candy Man" title! He especially loved to fish, did some awesome sunfish breakfasts and was even known to make a fishing snowman or two for visiting grandsons.

He enjoyed spending time in his later years with special friend, Bobbie Jo Hudson.

Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. service, Friday, October 5, 2018, at Darrow Road Wesleyan Church, 4020 S. Darrow Road, Superior, followed by a luncheon at the church.

Pallbearers will be David, Ben and Tim Deda, Kevin Kivisto, and Rollan and Jason Moriak.

Burial with military honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post 435, will at the Gordon Memorial Cemetery, Gordon, WI.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Darrow Road Wesleyan Church in Superior WI.
