Franklin R. "Tucker" Hill, 95, of Superior, Wis. passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on Oct. 12, 2009 in Villa-Marina Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Franklin was born June 27, 1914 in Duluth, Minn. to Augusta (Coester) and William Adam Hill. The family moved to Superior when Franklin was a small child.
He graduated from Superior Central High School on June 2, 1932. He and Virginia M. Keller were united in marriage on May 24, 1941 in Superior.
He served in the U. S. Army from Oct. 24, 1942 until Sept. 18, 1945.
Tucker's employment as the Superintendent of Operations with the C. Reiss Coal Co. began in 1948 and continued until his retirement in 1979.
He was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed golfing and on several occasion accomplished "a hole in one". He also enjoyed deer hunting and duck hunting. He liked the Green Bay Packers. Tucker's hobby was both flower and vegetable gardening, canning dill pickles and making rhubarb jam. He liked being at the lake home in Lake Nebagamon and he loved his dogs.
Franklin is lovingly remembered by his wife, Virginia; a daughter, Judith Koski of Superior; grandchildren, Jane (David) Worley of Duluth, Minn., Amy (Jameel Abdur-Rafia) Hill of Berwyn, Ill., Steven (Vicki) Hill of Madison, Wis., and Michelle Koski of Eau Claire, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Greta and Jack Worley, Olivia Rafia, and Tommy Hill; a daughter-in-law, Bev (Tom) Donaldson of Saginaw, Minn.; sisters, Margaret Flynn of Superior and Dorothy Brownell of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Many step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Thomas W. Hill on Aug. 5, 1981; brothers, William, Walter and Clarence Hill.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday in Christ Lutheran Church and continue until the 11 a.m. service with Rev. David Schoessow officiating.
Pallbearers will be Steven and Amy Hill, Jane Worley, Michelle Koski, Tom Donaldson, Michael Flynn and David Worley.
The committal prayers will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
If desired memorials in Tucker's name may be made to Christ Lutheran Church.
