Grimsrud
March 15, 1931 – March 9, 2017
Fred Lee Grimsrud, 85, of Sun City, AZ, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2017.
He was born March 15, 1931, in Duluth, the son of Fred and Sarah (Murphy) Grimsrud.
He graduated from Superior Central High School in 1948, enlisted in the Air Force and served until his honorable discharge in 1951. Fred received his Master Plumbers license and soon after opened Grimsrud Plumbing and Heating. Fred retired from the plumbing business at the age of 50 and started traveling. He later sold his home in Lake Nebagamon, WI, to permanently reside in Sun City, AZ.
During his retirement, Fred was extremely active with the Table Tennis club at the Bell Recreation Center. His love of the game was evident to all who met him; he mentored and taught many at the rec center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Julianna (Meteraud); brothers, Ward and Bill.
Fred is survived by his two daughters, Diane Nelson and Linda Anderson, both of Duluth, MN; ten grandchildren, Matthew (Darlene Rainey) Nelson, Duluth, MN, Nathan (Tracey) Lind, Hermantown, MN, Daniel (Fanjie) Nelson, Duluth, MN, Joshua (Angie McIntosh) Lind, Esko, MN, Christie (Frankie) Payne, Scottsdale, AZ, Clinton Anderson, Las Vegas, NV, Sarah Lind, Duluth, MN, Ashley Hofstrand, Superior, WI, Emily (Chris Engen) Anderson, Redondo Beach, CA, and Rebekah (James "CJ") Nick, Lakeville, MN; eight great-grandchildren, Luke, Jadyn, Eva, Addison, Alyce, Indi, Kaden, and Madison; brothers, Tom, Friendswood, TX, and Dick (Diane), Iron River, WI; sister-in-law, MaryLou, South Range, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Compassus Hospice for their loving care and compassion.
Visitation will be from noon, Friday, March 31, 2017, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19 th Street, Superior, WI, until 1:00 p.m. service, with Reverend Joel Certa-Werner officiating.
Interment will be at Lake Nebagamon Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
