Fred Emil Wicklund, 71, of Superior, died Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.

He was born in Superior on August 10, 1945, the son of Oscar and Doris Wicklund.

Fred was enlisted in the Navy from 1964 to 1966.  He worked at Kinney's Shoes, Fond du Luth Casino, and was a pipe fitter at Fraser Shipyard.

He and Barbara Mckee were united in marriage on March 21, 1972, and raised 3 children together.

Fred especially enjoyed riding his motorcycle.  Family was most important to him and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and uncle, Carl Stolpe.

Fred is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara; children, Kimberly Wicklund, Superior, Joey (Jenna) Wicklund, Superior, and Michael (Kristina) Wicklund, Superior; grandchildren, Chris, Cody, Morgan, Jessie, Andrew, and C.J.; siblings, Peggy (Dewey) VanValkenburg, Arkansas, Corky (Joe) Hinisiki, North Dakota, Barry (Marissa) Wicklund, Nevada, and Kim Moor; and many nieces and nephews.

His visitation will be on Wednesday, March 15, at Faith United Methodist Church, from noon until the 1:00 p.m. memorial service.  Pastor Joel Certa-Werner officiating.

Burial will be in Soldiers Memorial Park at Greenwood Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
