Obituary

Gary F. Cheselski, 75, of Superior, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 14, 2022, at his home.

Gary was in such a hurry to join the world that he was born enroute to the hospital in a car on March 29, 1947, the son of Walter and Harriet Cheselski. He spent his early childhood in Patzau, WI where he attended school.

On July 3, 1971, Gary married Janice Barton. He was a loving and devoted husband until her passing in 2015 after celebrating 44 years of marriage. Early in their marriage they could be seen wearing jackets with "Pollock" and "Pollock's Wife" stitched on the back. Every day Gary would call Janice from work during breaks and lunch just to make sure she was ok and see how her day was going. Once Janice became ill with cancer Gary lovingly became her caretaker and didn't leave her side.

Gary spent time working in Port Washington, WI with his brothers Sonny and Bobby. After spending a short time in Port Washington, he started his career at Koppers Industries where he remained until he retired in 2005. Not being able to sit still for very long Gary worked at ICO in South Superior doing odd jobs.

Gary could often be seen walking or riding his bike in South Superior. He loved fishing and spending time outside on his porch swing. He had a knack for building lawn decorations using wood from old pallets. Gary used his joy of working with his hands to decorate the inside of his home. Gary was very proud of his sobriety of more than 30 years. He will be remembered for being a hard worker, his devotion to those he loved, his willingness to give you the shirt off of his back, his strength, and his joy in the little things in life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and love of his life, Janice; grandson, Tristan; sister, Patricia; sister-in-law Theresia; and special fishing buddy Ben Livingston.

Gary is survived by his daughters, Tammy (Sacoris Bowie) Lavallee of Panama City, FL, and Penny (Arron) Cheselski-Bosteder of Superior; son, Jerry (Trish Conlon) Cheselski of Barnes, WI; grandchildren, Michael, Hannah, Daniel, Ashley, Jarrid, Katlyn, Dylan, Nathan, Alex and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Cayden, Jayden, and one on the way; sisters, Violet (Leo) Sanda and Sharon (Wayne) Johnstad, both of South Range; brothers, Walter Cheselski of Foxboro and Robert (Linda) Cheselski of Biloxi, MS; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2022, from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Darrow Road Wesleyan Church, 4020 South Darrow Road, Superior followed by a lunch and burial at Summit Cemetery in Foxboro, WI.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Cheselski, Nathan Conlon, Shawn Johnstad, Chad Johnstad, Jarrid Cheselski, Jason Larson.
