Gary W. Leindecker, 71, of South Range, died Thursday, January 15, 2015, at his home with Deb sitting next to him holding his hand, until he took the hand of Jesus who led him to his eternal home in heaven.
He was born December 4, 1943, in Ashland, Wisconsin, son of Frank and Florence (Alexander) Leindecker.
Gary had worked at the Superior Challenge Center.
Gary was an amazing person who touched the lives of every person who ever had the privilege of meeting him. Gary's favorite things in life were Cheetos and Coke. Gary loved it when Avari and Keegan would come to visit because he knew he would score a minimum of a 6 pack of Coke and countless Cheetos. He loved the weekends when Scott was home and they could have their coffee and cokes together, riding in his new car to the Holiday Station to get Cokes, their trips to McDonalds, going to the movies, and last but not least being at home.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his extended family, Scott and Debbie Winans, of South Range and their family, Jeremy, Brent, Avari Winans, and Keegan Buck; special caregivers, Tammie Carroll, Heather Hokans, Alex Bodendorfer, Jamie Sherlock, and Arlene Nelson; along with his extended family from the group home, "Missouri Gardens," where Gary previously lived.
Visitation will be from noon until the 1:00 p.m. service, Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Superior, with Reverend David Schoessow officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy and Brent Winans. Honorary pallbearers will be Avari Winans and Keegan Buck.
Scott and Deb would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to friends, Belinda Sternberg and Lynda Ritsche; and also to Gary's guardian, Sherry Piero; to Tammie Roe, Jon Wakefield and Karen Peterson from CCW; to Dr. Glick and Carol from HDC; to Dr. Holliday, the staff at Essentia-Health in Superior, and Essentia Hospice; the ambulance crews and their amazing volunteers; to Dr. Van Pelt, Dr. Esterbrook, and all of the staff at Essentia-St. Mary's and Miller Dwan for their patience, kindness and understanding.
