Obituary

Gary Glen Manderscheid, 86, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2022, in Duluth, MN. Gary was born October 2, 1935, in Seiling, Oklahoma to Glen and Evelyn (Adams) Manderscheid.

Graduating from Seiling High School in 1953, he attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford, OK, graduating with a degree in watchmaking. He honed his electronic skills at Casada's Jewelry until he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1958. He became an aircraft electrician and served in the Navy until 1962 aboard the USS Oriskany. After his military service, he continued his work in the aircraft industry working on aircraft technology for Lear Siegler which brought him to the Duluth Airbase. His military service and work allowed Gary to travel the world, most notably to Japan, the Philippines, Germany, Italy, Turkey, and Australia.

In Duluth, he met his future wife Mary Beth Gedde at Arthur Murray Dance Studio. They were married in December of 1974 and the spent the next 48 years together until her recent passing on April 16, 2022.

After his years with Lear Siegler, he worked for Benson Electric in Superior. In 1977, he began a new career with the United State Postal Service, retiring in 2003. Upon retirement, Gary and Mary enjoyed traveling the United States in their motor home and lovingly caring for their cocker spaniels, Lady, Buffy, and Sunny. He also enjoyed clock and watch repair and jewelry making.

Most of us remember Gary as very quiet and soft spoken. However, in his younger years he was an accomplished singer. We are comforted knowing that he is now singing loudly with the angels.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents, Glen and Evelyn; stepfather, Dale Reynolds; and nephew, Doug Cooper.

Gary is survived by his sister, Faye D. Cooper, Oklahoma City, OK; nephews Brett Cooper, Seiling, OK and Steve (wife Jay) Cooper, Thailand. He is also survived by brother-in-law, William (Terri) Gedde, their son Will (Megan) Gedde and daughter, Tori (Vince) Baker.

A graveside service will be held in Brumfield Cemetery, Seiling, Oklahoma at a future date.
