George H. Dzelak, 55 of Superior, died Saturday, October 9, 2010 in St. Mary's Hospice Care at St. Francis Health and Rehabilitation Center.
George was born in Superior on July 16, 1955 the son of Theresa (Olaf) and Joseph Dzelak.
He enlisted in the Army and served his country from 1973-77.
He was a bartender working in local taverns. He was an avid Viking fan an enjoyed shooting pool and being with friends. Most important to him was spending time with his family and grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Georgann "Susie"; two daughters, Sonja (Bob) Hoyt of Superior and Torie (Matt Champeny) Dzelak of Madison, Wis.; his cherished grandchildren, Haylee and Thomas; three brothers, Jim (Kathy) Dzelak of Newberry, Mich., Tim (Patti) Dzelak of Woodbury, Minn. and Rick (Babbette) Dzelak of Superior; and many nieces and nephews.
His visitation will be held on Tues., Oct. 12 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral service will be on Weds., Oct 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th St. and Ogden Ave. in Superior. Chaplain Gary Meller will officiate. Military Honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435. Private family inurnment will be in Soldiers Memorial Park in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the medical staff on the 9th floor at St. Mary's Hospital, the staff of St. Mary's Hospice Care and the staff at St. Francis Health and Rehabilitation Center for their care.
