Obituary

George H. Fisher, Jr., lovingly referred to by many as "Papa", 101, of Superior, passed away on January 2, 2026, at Viewcrest Health Center in Duluth, Minnesota.

George, the son of George Sr. and Elsie (Rogers) Fisher, was born on July 26, 1924, in Drummond Township.  By December 10, 1976, George would go on to marry the love of his life, Bonnie R. Hood in Superior, Wisconsin – they would go on to spend the next 49 years together.

Growing up during the Depression Era, life was not easy for George.  He graduated high school early and ultimately enlisted in the United States Army where he would go on to serve in both World War II and the Korean War and be awarded two Purple Hearts, amongst other honors during his service.  When George returned to the Superior area, he kept himself busy by wearing many hats – one of which was as the owner/operator of the Lakeview Standard Service Station in Superior for over 30 years.  Throughout his long life, his hats included that of a bookkeeper for Standard Oil, a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker, and even a greeter at the local Walmart – where he worked well into his 90s.

George was a proud man who believed in the importance of hard work.  He kept a perfect lawn and many friends and neighbors fondly recall finding him in his yard hand picking the dandelions from it.  He was a long-time member of the Moose Lodge 606, where he served as governor for a few terms.  He was also a member of the VFW Post #137 where he spent many Thursdays out-pegging his opponents in cribbage.   Later in life, you could find George at home every evening with his wife tuned in to the Wheel of Fortune, forever guessing the phrases before Bonnie could.

George lived a full life, always going above and beyond in all things.  He was a true family man who loved to dance, work puzzles, watch the rodeo, and play cards.

George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Robert, and Raymond; sister, Alice; son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Sandra; grandson, Jacob; great grandchildren, Kingston, Judah, and Ryan as well as his former wife Margaret.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie; children, Valerie (Tom) Blomquist, Carl Fisher, Timothy (Ruth) Fisher, Bradley (Anne) Bergquist, and Traci (Gary Scheer) Bergquist; grandchildren, Christopher (Cortni) Blomquist, Amy (Scott) Warring, David Fisher, Steven (Rhonda) Fisher, Rachel Fisher, Nathan Fisher, Anna (Rex) Fisher, Brittani (Jayce) Mayberry, Zachary Houle, Nicholas Scheer, Alexis Scheer, Alita (Greg) Burr; great grandchildren, Grant, Jill, Shawn, Nolan, Riese (Maddy), Abigail, Wyatt, Isabelle, Monte, Amaia, Julius, Josiah, Carter, Audree, Dakota, Louis, Ryan, Kingsley, Scotty, Isiah, Serenity, Gavin, Paris, London, and Colton; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
