George "Frody" Frodesen, 91, of Superior, WI died May 15, 2010 at
St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth. He was born February 20, 1919 in Superior.
George was married to Jeanne Campbell for 67 years. He attended
Superior Central High School and Superior State College.
George was employed at the Wisconsin State Bank as Vice President and
later as Bank Manager of the South End branch when Wisconsin State Bank
was sold to M&I Bank (Milwaukee.) He was very active in the community
as a member of the Boy Scout Council and Board of Directors where he
received the Silver Beaver Award. George served on the Board of
Directors of the Friends of the Library, Board of Directors of the
Douglas County Historical Society, and the Selection Board of
University of Wisconsin at Superior Athletic Hall of Fame. He was
Campaign Fund Chairman of the Community Chest, Business Division
Chairman of the United Way drive, Co-Honorary Chairperson of the 2009
United Way campaign and Chairman of the Red Cross Drive. George was
also a bell ringer for the Salvation Army for many years.
He as a member of the 1936 Central High School State Championship
basketball team and a starting forward on the Superior State College
basketball team. George's passion in life was fly fishing, golf and
walking his Airedale dogs.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Lila (Wells) and Frank
Frodesen. Survivors include his wife Jeanne, daughters Kristin Brown
(Al) of Sedona, AZ, Jan from Santa Barbara, CA, and Lila
Frodesen-Davidson (Terry) of New York, sons Eric (Sheri) of Katy, TX,
and Mark, Superior. George also has five grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
A celebration of his life will be held at Holy Assumption Church on
Monday, June 21st. Notice will be given later as to the time. If
desired, memorials may be made to the Animal Rescue Federation of
Superior for their new shelter or to the Douglas County Historical
Society.
