George R. Johnson, 85 of South Range, died on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Divine Rehabilitation in Superior.

He was born on March 18, 1938 in Superior, WI to Edith (Carlson) and William Johnson.

George graduated from Northwestern High School in 1956.  He was employed at Superior Hardboard Plant, the Railroad and as a tax preparer at H&R Block.  George was the fire chief with the Lakeside Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

George had a farm with beef and dairy cattle.  He enjoyed fishing on the Amnicon River and loved to snowmobile with Sally in the winter months.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Sally on July 31, 2023; his brothers, Lloyd (Helen) Johnson, and Fred (Carolyn) Johnson; his nephew Bradley Johnson and his brother in-law, Murlyn Stalvig.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 10:30 until the 11:00 am funeral service at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19th St., with Gary Banker as officiant.  Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
