Obituary

George W. Roberts, 93, of Superior, died Monday April 9, 2012 at Golden Living Center.

George was born on June 16, 1918 in Plankinton, South Dakota the son of John and Anna Roberts.

He served his country during WWII in the Army from 1942-43. Following his service he was employed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in Blackduck, Minn.

George married Rose Ridder and they celebrated over 65 years of marriage together until her death on March 2, 2010.

He was a milkman working for Valley Brook Creamery & Twin Ports Dairy until his retirement in 1974. He owned and operated Roberts Refrigeration He was a life member of the NRA and was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.

After many years living in Billings Park, George and Rose built their home in the country and loved it. They had an apple orchard, raised bees, enjoyed farming and had large gardens. He was also an avid hunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose; twin brother, Gerald who was killed during WWII in Guadalcanal; sisters, Joyce and Pearl; and a brother Franklin.

George is survived by his five children, Carl (Carol) Roberts of Superior, June (Bud) Arneson of Superior, Judy (Jim) Gustafson of Plymouth, Minn., Paul (Pat) Roberts of Hermantown, Minn., and Gerald (Dokhee) Roberts of Stockton, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Williams of Duluth; close nephew, Jim (Mary) Ridder of Aitkin, Minn.; and his nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery in Superior. Rev. Sarah Kerkes of Our Saviors Lutheran Church will officiate.
