Obituary

George Francis "Umo" Umolac, Jr., 77, of Lake Nebagamon, Wis., died peacefully at home in the Great Northland on Wed., Jan. 21, 2015.

He was born Mar. 9, 1937 in Virginia, Minn. to Helen (Sarell) and George Umolac and moved with his family to Superior in 1941. He attended the St. Louis Elementary School and graduated with the class of 1955 from Cathedral High School, where he was a star player in both basketball and football. His great sense of humor stayed with him all his life.

His hobbies were acrylic painting, writing icons, and watching sports. He was always working on projects at home.

George served his country from Jan. 1956 until Dec. 1959 in the U. S. Navy.

For thirty-one years he was employed by NCR as a field engineer.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of twenty-one years, the former Shirley Kankas, who was the love of his life; a sister, Susan (Michael) Bobb of York, Penn.; a son, George Umolac III of Champlin, Minn.; two daughters, Stephanie (Isaac) Umolac of Columbia Heights, Minn. and Jennifer Umolac of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; a step-son, Michael (Beth) Rouleau Hingham, Mass., three step-daughters, Kathleen (Jim) Fraiti of Portland, Maine, Michelle Rouleau of Naples, Fla. and Renee (Florian) Oger of Austin, Tex.; grandchildren, Matthew and Natalie Umolac, Claire and Isaac Umolac-Bunker, Katherine, Emily, Michael and Bridget Heggie, and Caroline and Alex Oger.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Patricia Ann Umolac; and a brother, James R. Umolac.

If desired, memorials in George's name may be made to the Dominican Sisters of Mary, 4597 Warren Rd., Ann Arbor, Mich. 48105 or the charity of the donor's choice.

Visitation will be on Sat., Jan. 24th from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Lake Nebagamon, of which he was a member. Rev. Fr. Dean Buttrick will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at the Lake Nebagamon Cemetery at a later date.

Pallbearers are Don Bronson, Tom Bronson, Fred Hennessy, Phil Stariha, George Umolac III, and Matthew Umolac.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Perlov and his staff and the St. Luke's Hospice team.
