Gerald W. "Jerry" Moe, 73, of Superior, Wis., died unexpectedly Thurs., Mar. 1, 2012 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 2, 1938 in Superior.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Betty Eastman; their children, Trudy (Mike) Kroeger of Chetek, Wis., Geralee Moe of Seattle, Wash., Jerry (Kris) Moe of Superior and Chris Moe of Superior; grandchildren, Joe Kroeger, Alayna, Evan and Ben Moe, Justin Cannon and Savanna Flynn; a brother, James (Ilene) Moe; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Moe; sisters, Beverly Haglund and Edie Brokaw; and a brother, Jack Moe.
Jerry joined the Superior Police Force on June 12, 1963. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1978, detective in 1979 and captain in 1982. He retired July 17, 1992 as Captain of Detectives. In 1974 he received the Police Officer of the Year Award.
Throughout his retirement Jerry enjoyed his time spent at his summer home on the Pike Lake Chain, Iron River, Wis. and their winter trips to Florida. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, especially with his close friends in the "Once-a-Year Golf Club".
He was a member of the Wisconsin Professional Police Assoc., the Superior Elks Lodge No. 403 for 21 years and the Moose Lodge No. 606 since 2005.
Visitation will be on Mon., Mar. 5 from Noon until the 1:00 p.m. funeral service in St. Francis Xavier Church with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski officiating. Committal prayers will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St., is assisting the family with arrangements.
