Gerald T. "Jerry" Peterson, 45, of Superior, died peacefully with his family at his side, from complications of pneumonia, Friday, December 29, 2017, at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth.

He was born September 10, 1972, in Duluth, son of Douglas J. and Julie A. (Olson) Peterson.

Jerry was a 1990 graduate of Superior Senior High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin – Superior, where he studied chemistry and physics.

As a food service assistant, Jerry worked for Superior Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

Everyone who knew Jerry or maybe met him only once, remembers his smile. His smile was always so fun and kind. You wanted to be with him.

Some of his many interests included spending time on the Brule River fishing and canoeing.

Preceding him in death were his maternal grandfather, Arthur H. Olson; paternal grandparents, James and Sadie Peterson; and paternal great-grandmother, Susie Peterson.

Survivors include his parents, Douglas and Julie Peterson, Solon Springs; sister, Lindsey M. (Craig) Jacobson, Superior; maternal grandmother, Muriel A. Olson, Superior; uncles, John Olson, Superior, and James (Suzie) Olson, Superior, aunt, Jill (Paul) Olson, Oliver, WI; and several cousins.

The visitation will be from 10 until the noon service, Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19 ^th Street, Superior.  Gary Banker will officiate.
