Glen C. Barnes, 84, Superior, went to be with his Lord and Savior while at Middle River Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Range, on Wednesday, April 6, 2016. He was born in Winter, WI, on March 7, 1932, to Clarence and Nellie (Larson) Barnes. The family moved to Superior in 1943 and he graduated from the former Central High School in 1950.
Glen married Joyce Kadlecek, Phillips, WI, on June 30, 1962, at the First Baptist Church, Prentice, WI. They would have been married 54 years this June.
He worked for Duplex Mfg for many years, and later worked for Superior Glass as a glazier, retiring in 1995 after 27 years.
He was a member of Ogden Avenue/Bayside Baptist Church where he served in various capacities, including deacon, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, choir member and leader of the Boys' Stockade program. He was most notably known for his musical ability having a beautiful tenor voice. He served his country with the U.S. Army in Korea.
Besides church involvement, he sang with the Superior Singers, was a volunteer story reader at Bryant Elementary School and worked in Child Evangelism Good News Clubs. His hobbies included woodworking, bowling, going on bus trips with his wife to Branson, MO and many other places. He was a faithful supporter of his grandchildren's school activities, concerts and sporting events.
He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Wilda Jane Barnes, sister Lorraine Williams and half-sister, Wilma Peterson.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; one son, Kenneth (Nicole), New Hope, MN; two daughters, Renee (Richard) Tunell, Superior, and Linda (Aaron) Faiman, Fargo, ND; six grandchildren, Alexandir Tunell, Colorado Springs, CO, Erick, Megan, Nathan Tunell, Superior, and Owen and Mae Barnes, New Hope, MN; three sisters, Lucille (David) Bergstrom, Superior, Clarice Flemming, Superior, Dorothy Walton, South Range, WI, cousins and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service Monday, April 11, at Bayside Baptist Church, 3915 N. 16th St., Superior. Pastor Mark Pavola will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post 435, following the service at the church.
Committal prayers will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, after the luncheon at the church.
The family sincerely thanks the nurses and staff of the third floor at Middle River for their excellent care, love and support for Glen.
