It is with deep sadness that we share with you the passing of beloved husband, father and grandfather, and great grand father Glenn Parish. He passed away peacefully May 28, 2016, at the age of 88. Glenn was born on July 27, 1927, to Vincent and Lily Parish and lived in Superior and Lake Nebagamon his entire life. On July 16, 1949, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Bergquist and began creating a life filled with love, family, friendship, and church. Glenn enjoyed the fellowship of the Masons, education, hunting, fishing, trap shooting, gardening, woodworking and making maple syrup, wine, and sauerkraut. He had a gift for writing and reciting limericks. And always loved singing a strong bass and playing his violin.
Few can say that they were so lucky to experience and enjoy such a full life as much as Glenn did. After a stint in the Navy, his teaching career began in 1950 and he retired in 1987. He served in the School District of Superior his entire career first at East High School and then at Superior .senior High School. His devotion to teaching biology and serving as an inspiration and mentor to "super scientists" kept a bounce in his step every day of teaching. He lived many years in East End before moving to Lake Nebagamon. He and Marilyn enjoyed 25 winters in Arizona before health issues prevented the trip.
In every task he undertook, he committed himself whole-heartedly and shared his positivity, wisdom and humor with all in his company. Over the years, Glenn's contributions were those of membership in Masonic Lodge 236, treasurer of the School Employees Credit Union, member of the Hawthorne Gun Club, American Federation of Teachers, and Trinity Lutheran Church of Lake Nebagamon.Glenn's greatest roles were teacher, friend and family man.
The loved ones Glenn leaves behind include his wife Marilyn (Bergquist), children Susan (Jack) Drinkwine of Crandon, WI; Sharon (Rocky) Nelson of Waunakee WI; Paul (Linda) Parish of Lake Elmo, MN; and Ruthann Parish of Moose Lake, MN. Glenn leaves behind his sole sibling and lifelong friend, Richard (Janice) Parish of Lake Nebagamon, WI. Survivors also include grandchildren: Ross, Kate, Adam, Paul, Adrienne, Lauren and Vince; as well as great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Lily, and six siblings: Harry, Lois, Dorothy, Bob, Fritz, Tom and many nieces and nephews.
For all who loved Glenn Parish, we ask you to join us in celebrating his beautiful life! Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Nebagamon with worship services to follow at 1 PM. Private internment for family will follow at Lake Nebagamon Cemetery with Pastor Lee Boleman officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post 435.
The family extends their gratitude and appreciation to the caregivers of the Lighthouse of Superior. Their many kindnesses and attention to Glenn while demonstrating great consideration to his family in the past week will not be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Lake Nebagamon, WI or Masonic Lodge 236 of Superior, WI.
