Obituary

Gordon J. Herbranson, 84, of Gordon, WI, died Sunday November 29, 2020 at Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.

He was born in Duluth on May 8, 1936 the son of Gordon M. and Florian (Ernest) Herbranson. His father died in 1936 and he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Helge Helquist, in Proctor.

Gordon served his country honorably by enlisting in the U.S. Army.

On Sept. 14,1963 he married Judith Harstad and they raised their family in Superior. Gordon worked for the DMIR Railroad for many years. After retirement, they settled in Gordon, WI and enjoyed wintering in Bullhead City, AZ and also in Florida.

Gordon was very active in the community and was a member of the Moose Lodge and the UCT.He enjoyed the outdoors including fishing, camping, hunting, and snowmobiling.  He also loved to cook.

Gordon was a social person and thoroughly enjoyed the company of others.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon; mother, Florian (Helge) Helquist; daughter, Brenda Bromen; and brother, Larry Helquist.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Judith; daughter, Debra (David) Crooker of Newport, WA; son-in-law, Peter Bromen of Duluth; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Nicholas Bromen and David Crooker; great-grandchildren, Noel, Elizabeth, Nathan, Niam, and Emilia; niece and nephews, Kim Lander, Kevin Helquist, and Teresa Tucker; and Kim's children, Ashley, Ryan, and Matthew.

Services for Judith and Gordon will be held at Downs Funeral Home, Wednesday, April 21, 2021.  Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with the service following at 11.  Reverend Father James Tobolski will officiate.

Burial of both Judith and Gordon will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.
