Gordon "Gordy" L. Mossberger, 73, of Superior, WI, peacefully passed away surrounded by his beloved family on October 8, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.
Gordy was born on July 23, 1948 in Superior, WI to Irvin and Claudine Mossberger. From a young age Gordy was an exceptional athlete. He played on the all-star team that won the 1959 Wisconsin State Little League Championship, and in 2009 was inducted into the Superior Athletic Hall of Fame. Throughout his life Gordy remained an avid sports fan and collector of memorabilia. He loved the years he spent coaching baseball. He also enjoyed hockey, NASCAR, and spending time on the golf course where he hit a hole-in-one.
After graduating from Superior Senior High in 1966, Gordy married his high school sweetheart Judy Ward in 1971 and had two children, Amy and Tyler. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 35 years before retiring in 2005.
Gordy always looked forward to spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons Talon and Kip. He was a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He will be remembered for his competitive spirit, sharp sense of humor, and most of all his deep love for his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Claudine Mossberger; brother, Irvin Mossberger; sisters, Beverly Androsky-Baker and Barbara Anderson; and brother-in-law, Jack Anderson.
Gordy is survived by his wife of 50 years Judy Mossberger; daughter, Amy (Troy) Gehrmann; son, Tyler (Crystal) Mossberger; grandsons, Talon and Kip Mossberger; brother- in-law, Kevin Baker; sister-in-law, Carol Mossberger; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 21 st from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 funeral service at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19 th St., with Gary Banker as officiant. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
