Gregory 'Jaws' P. Austreng, 69, lifelong resident of Superior, died Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Regency Hospital in Golden Valley, MN.

Greg was born in Superior on March 17, 1954, the son of George and Eleanor (Tempelis) Austreng.

He graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1972 where he played for 3 straight State Champion Hockey teams and served as captain his senior year.  He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin Superior.

Greg worked as a Medical Technologist at St. Luke's Hospital for over 30 years. He was an avid WI sports fan, enjoyed music, and cooking. He also enjoyed spending time at his cabin, socializing with friends at Dodgie's, and loved dogs, especially his 'granddogs.'

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Greg is survived by his wife, Jody; sons, Dustin Austreng of Monticello, MN and Tyler Austreng of Superior; brother, Steve (Donna) Austreng of Coon Rapids, MN; uncle, Jay Austreng; and extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Greg's Life will be held on Sat. Jan. 13th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. with a time of remembrance at 2:30 by Gary Banker, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19th St. His celebration will continue at Dodgie's East End Tavern, 2114 E 5th St., beginning at 3:00p.m.
