August 26, 1940 – September 19, 2018
Harley W. Hickok, 78, of Superior, passed away after a short illness on September 19, 2018.
He was born in Barron, WI, on August 26, 1940, the son of Wilfred and LaVerne Hickok.
The family moved to Superior when Harley was a young child. Harley joined the Boy Scouts where he was a member of the "Indian Dancing Troop" and performed for numerous events. Harley learned many life lessons and felt every young man should have that experience.
Harley was a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard and served as a civilian at the Air Nation Guard Base as a Ground Power Technician for several years.
He went on to work as a Lineman for the Head of the Lakes Electric (E.C.E.) where he retired after 28 years of service.
In the early sixty's, Hickok Farm was established and spanned 30 plus years of breeding, training, and showing their fine Arabian Horses. On a trip to Scottsdale Arizona, the Arabian Mecca for Arabians, Harley discovered a dessert paradise called "Carefree".
Some years later, his wife surprised him with a Casita at the base of Black Mountain….. in a place called "Carefree".
Harley really enjoyed his motorcycles and he and his wife and friends made many trips through the plains, desserts, and Smokey Mountains.
His daily chores where making sure "HIS" birds were fed, and the acres of green green grass were mowed.
Harley was a kind and gentle man and he will be greatly missed by many.
Harley is survived by his wife Lila of 55 years; cherished daughter, Shawn Hickok; beloved grandson, Alex Hickok; siblings, Irvin Hickok, Harvey (Donna) Hickok, and Lynn (Leonard) Johnson; sister-in-law, Wendy Hickok; and sister-in-law, Sheila Johnson, Lila's sister, whom they raised from an early age.
His visitation will be on Sunday, September 30, 2018, from 1:30 p.m. until the 2:30 p.m. funeral service at Darrow Road Wesleyan Church, 4020 S Darrow Rd, Superior, WI 54880. Rev. Mark Holmes officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandson, Alex Hickok; brother-in-law, Todd Roeber; nephew, Shane Hickok; and friends, Stan Wolf, Tom Devine, and Dick Christman.
