Harold E
Koenen
August 5, 1931 – February 16, 2026
Harold E. Koenen was born on August 5th, 1931, in Superior Wisconsin to Henry and Bernice Koenen, and was a lifelong resident of Superior's East End. He passed away peacefully at his home on February 16th, 2026, with family by his side. Harold leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, steady kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends.
He was united in marriage to Maureen M. Heinen on August 9th, 1952, and together they raised a beautiful family. In 2024, they celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary prior to Maureen's passing.
Harold was stationed at Fort Bragg as a paratrooper during the Korean War and was honorably discharged from Military Service in 1961. He held various jobs throughout his life, but the most notable one was the 29 years that he spent working at Superior Water, Light and Power. Upon retirement, he spent time traveling the world with Maureen and the St. Francis Travelers, golfing with the Over the Hill Gang, gardening and sharing his abundant crops with neighbors, playing cribbage, listening to the Twins play on the radio, enjoying conversations with Maureen over coffee each morning, and cuddling with his dog Kasey.
He was a devoted husband, proud father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend. Whether he was offering wise advice, lending a helping hand, or sharing one of his well-timed stories, Harold made those around him feel supported and valued. Above all, Harold's greatest pride was his family. His love was steadfast and generous, and the lessons he taught—through both words and example—will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Harold is survived by his children Stephen (Tammyra) Koenen, Jeffrey (Jill Rolanson) Koenen, David (Shari Pioro) Koenen, Nancy (Robert) Roske, Patricia (Kevin) Miller, and Robert Koenen; grandchildren Christopher, Jessica, Heather, Jeffrey Jr (Ashley), Rachel, Samuel (Jessica), Rindi, April, Amy (Shawn), McKenzie (William), Amanda (Matthew), Emily, Evan, Briana, Holly, and Kristie; great-grandchildren Payton, Ethan, Mason, Thatcher, Alma, Ilee, Tamia, Kasey, Karleigh, Jorden, Jayden, Ava, Katelyn, Lauren, Macy, Oliver, Adrianna, Emilio, Wynter, Annaleya, and Cynthia; and brother Gerald Koenen.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maureen; son, Daniel; sibling Donald; grandchildren Michael and Kenneth; and his parents.
Harold's family would like to extend thanks to Essentia Health Hospice for the outstanding care he received over the past year.
