Helen Louise Engstrom, age 95, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Harmony House II, in South Superior.

She was the 7th of 10 children born in Mellen, Wisconsin, on July 15, 1916 to Elmer and Borghild Johnson. At the age of 2 her family moved to Billings Park in Superior. She attended Cooper School and graduated in 1934 from Superior Central High School. She was employed by Russell Creamery and Fagerlin Fuel before marrying Carl Engstrom in 1950.

Helen was active in the community as a member of several civic and church organizations, including the Superior Women's Club, the Iris Garden Club, the Onaway Club, the Ladies Elks, Sweet Adelines, the Pilgrim Lutheran Church Women and the Esther Circle, plus over 40 years as an alto in the church choir. She played the piano, playing many hymns and old songs from the 30's and 40's by memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 47 years, Carl, her brothers Lloyd, Julius, Larry, Bob, and Orville, and sisters Grace, Betty, and Dagney. She is survived by her brother, Ray, of Oakdale, MN., a cousin, Lois Erickson, of San Diego, CA., her daughter, Carol, of Coon Rapids, MN. and her son Ronald (Lael), and grandchildren Eric and Leah of Tulsa, OK., and many loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 30th at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 820 Belknap Street, Superior. A memorial fund has been established in Helen's name on behalf of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church Radio Ministry.

The family wishes to thank the Harmony House staff for their loving care and support these past three years. Mom felt right at home among her new family.
