Helen M. Hase, 92, a former longtime resident of Superior, Wis., currently residing in Lake Nebagamon, Wis., died Mon., Oct. 25, 2010 in St. Luke's Hospice, Duluth, Minn.
She was born Jan. 23, 1918 near Floodwood, Minn., but lived most of her life in Superior. She attended school in Superior.
She spent many years in her younger days playing piano at various clubs in Oliver, Wis. and the surrounding area. She was partners with her husband, Charles, in Hase Fly & Rod Co. Helen was known for the excellent job she did repairing fishing rods and with her husband they finished fly rods for the Brule Rod Co. She also had worked as a cashier for the former Zanuzoski Liquor Store in Superior, and both the former Siegel's Grocery Store and the former Moss' Grocery Store in Lake Nebagamon, Wis.
Helen's favorite meal was brook trout out of her beloved Brule River, which she fished many times. Her grandchildren remember being taught by her to fish off the shore of Lake Nebagamon. She shared her love of music with family and friends; and her children and grandchildren remember many sing-a-longs around her piano. She was a Green Bay Packer fan and loved watching the games on TV.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles Edward Hase on May 18, 1987 and a grandson, Matthew Charles Rivard on Feb. 18, 2006.
She is survived by her six children, Patricia (Roger) Higgins of Superior, Kathy Thoda of Biloxi, Miss., Mary Jo (Byron) Card of Foxboro, Wis., twins, Charles Hase, Jr. of Hibbing, Minn. and Helen C. Hase of Duluth, and James Hase of Lake Nebagamon; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until her 11:00 a.m. funeral service in Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St. on Thurs., Oct. 28th with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski, Pastor of the St. Francis Xavier Congregation officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her spouse in the Lake Nebagamon Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Thomas Moore, Steven Erickson and Matthew Higgins; granddaughter, Eryca Card; and sons-in-law, Roger Higgins and Byron Card.
