Obituary

Celebrating the life of Hugh C. McDonald

Hugh Cameron McDonald III 66, of Foxboro Wisconsin passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 23, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospice in Duluth, MN.

Hugh's journey began January 15, 1947 in Superior WI, son of Hugh C. McDonald II and Dorothy M (McCusker) Garrity.

Hugh was baptized at Cathedral of Christ the King and later confirmed in 1959.

Hugh graduated from the old Central High School in 1965 and later attended the University of Minnesota Duluth, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics; he was a proud Bulldog and enjoyed watching Hockey.

In 1969 Hugh began his career with the State of Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation. He progressed in his career working as draftsman and retired as a Utilities Coordinator after 33 years. Hugh's professional passion was being a Land Surveyor; for 37 years he owned his own company and had an active State of Wisconsin Surveyor's License until his death.

On February 15, 1969, Hugh married his high school sweetheart Kathleen (Kathy) Hulter, at Cathedral of Christ the King. Hugh and Kathy built their home in Chaffey, Wisconsin, raising a family and building a lifetime of memories.

Through the years, Hugh enjoyed a variety of hobbies and activities. Hugh loved being outdoors, playing ice hockey, downhill skiing, fishing, partridge and duck hunting, and his dogs. Hugh also enjoyed doing handiwork, wood working and restoring old cars. Hugh had a passion for life long learning and spending time with his family.

Hugh received a lung transplant in November, 2006 giving him 6 more years with his family before being diagnosed with cancer in the spring 2012 which ultimately took his life. Hugh and the Family would like to give special thanks of gratitude to Dr. Jagadish Patil at the University of MN Fairview.

Hugh's survivors include his wife, Kathleen of 44 years. Hugh's three children: Scott McDonald (Christine) of Foxboro, Christopher McDonald (Julia) of Minneapolis, MN and Amy Swendsrud (Tony) of Minnetonka, MN. Five grandchildren: Alexis, Allison, Richard, Laura, and Charlie.
His Sister Michelle (Donald) Nykanen of Maple, WI. As well as his beloved yellow lab, Emily.

Hugh was preceded in death by his parents Hugh C McDonald II, Dorothy (McCusker) Garrity and Eugene Garrity.

Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial, Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Cathedral of Christ the King, Superior. Reverend Father Andrew P. Ricci will be the celebrant.
