He was born July 24, 1922 in Superior, son of Louise (Bartels) and Irving Berg, Sr.

After a tour of action in Europe with the U.S. Army during WWII, Irv had a career as a switchman with the Great Northern/Burlington Northern Railroads.

On January 20, 1951 in Superior, Irving C. Berg, Jr. and Edith C. Allen were united in marriage. They shared over 55 years of marriage until her passing in 2006.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and sisters, Lois Wolf and Nancy Keup.

Irving, the eldest of 6 children is survived by daughters, Debby (Kevin) Conley, Superior, and Cindy Kowalik, Iron River; grandchildren, John (Kristi) Conley, Pete (Beth) Conley, Nathan (Jennifer) Kowalik, Eric (Kerry Rubel) Kowalik, and Heather Kowalik; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Dickenson and Marcie Lien, both of Superior; brother, Denny (Nan) Berg, Crescent City, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

Over his life, Irv was an avid bowler, and loved hunting, fishing and other sports. He enjoyed putzing around, especially later in life while gardening. He was very proud of the family cabin built in Iron River and loved spending time at the lake.

Irv always had a friendly smile and loved to stop and talk with everyone. He always looked forward to Mondays, because Mondays were his grocery shopping days and his time to visit with other shoppers.

His neighbors often heard him speak proudly of his family, especially his grandkids. At his apartment building, Irv was known as "The Mayor". Yes, he will be missed by all.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Superior.
