Obituary

Isabell Tusin, 108, of Superior died Monday, July 13, 2026, at Dove Health Care in Billings Park where she has resided since December 2021.

She was born in Superior on November 9, 1917, the daughter of Samuel and Lena Titch. She graduated from Superior Central High School in 1936, attended Superior State Teachers College and graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI in1938. She also graduated from Bartley Business School.

Isabell worked for the US government in Washington D.C., Detroit and Chicago during World War II. She retired from the UWS Extension Office in 1993.

She married Jake Tusin in 1947 and lived in Chisholm, MN for 4 years. In Chisholm she was active in Eastern Star and many other organizations.

When they moved to Superior in 1951, she became active in the community. She served as president of Douglas County TB Association, vice president of Douglas County Cancer Society, president of Douglas County Hearing Impaired Association, president of Superior Chapter of National Council of Jewish Women, served nearly 50 years as the chair of the Sick Loan Cupboard, senior council of Superior UCT Auxiliary, a life member of Hadassah, president of Hadassah and served on the Upper Midwest Board of Hadassah.

She received the Evening Telegram’s Orchid of the Month for her outstanding volunteer work. She was a member of the Fairlawn Museum, Foundation Board of the Challenge Center of Douglas County, Blood Bank Board, Superior Women’s Club, Alumni of UWS and the UWS Foundation and was active at the Senior Center and RSVP.

Isabell served as chair for all her high school class reunions; the last was their 76th before deciding not to have any more.

In her later years she enjoyed playing cards, eating out with friends, and knitting for RSVP.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Tusin, in 1987; her mother and father, her sister, Evelyn Lieberman Latts; and nephew, J Leslie Lieberman who was killed in Viet Nam.

Isabell is survived by her son Barry (Linda Frantsen) of Wheaton, IL; grandchildren, Emily Tusin Stewart (Justin) of Aurora, IL, and Joshua (Renee) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and great grandchildren, Maxence, Xavier, Beckett and Annabel.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday July 16th at 2:00p.m. at the Superior Hebrew Cemetery with Rabbi David Steinberg officiating.

Following her graveside service, a reception will be held at 3:30 at Temple Israel, 1602 E 2nd St., Duluth, MN 55812. Shiva will be held at Temple Israel following the reception.

The family wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to the tireless, caring and loving staff of Dove Health Care as well as the members of “Team Isabell” from St. Croix Hospice.

If desired, memorials in Isabell’s name may be made to Hadassah, Temple Israel or a charity of your choice.

Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N 34th St., Superior, is assisting the family with arrangements.
