James A. 'Jimmy' Nelson, 64, of Superior, died Thursday, April 7, 2022, at his residence.
James was born on March 1, 1958, the son of Russell and Shirley (Patrick) Nelson. He attended Superior High School and was a member of the LCO band of Lake Superior Chippewa.
He had worked as a bartender, security and maintenance at Black Bear Casino, and for the Superior Telegram.
Jimmy was very social and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was an avid Green Bay Packer Fan. He had excellent taste in music and was known for playing great jukebox tunes. He loved his guitar and his Budweiser. Spending time with his friends around the table or fire was one of his favorite pastimes. Countless memories and laughs have been made over the years by all who joined him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jeanne Nelson; brother-in-law, Doug Love; nephew, Christopher Flick and lifelong friend Jonny Bell.
James is survived by his children, Cheri (Rich) Peacock, Jamie (Matthew) Gibson, Lindsey Jarvi, and Jerome Otis; siblings, Mary Love, Robyn Nelson, Julie (Duane) Johnson; longtime family friend, Kathy Krause-Starstead; good friend, Jack Mohr; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19 th St., with Fr. Andrew Ricci as officiant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
A Celebration of Jimmy's Life will be held immediately following his service at Striker's Bar. Everyone has a Jimmy Nelson story, so please come share yours at his favorite spot.
