James Patrick Cahill (Jim), 63, of Superior, Wi, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026, at Essentia St. Mary's Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the love of his life, Patty, and beloved family.
Jim was born November 23, 1962, in Superior, Wisconsin to Rose (Trifilette) Cahill and Francis Cahill.
He grew up as a true free-range kid, popping wheelies on his Sting-Ray bike through the Hammond Park neighborhood. Alongside a big circle of friends, he was always dreaming up creative ways to earn a few bucks for shoelace licorice and an ice-cold Cokes.
Those adventures taught him lessons that stayed with him for life. He discovered that the best results came from looking out for one another and treating people with genuine kindness. Long before he became a successful salesman, he had already learned that trust, teamwork, and caring for others were the real keys to success.
Jim's career mirrored the evolution of technology. He started as a paperboy for the Evening Telegram, later working in post-press, binding newspapers for delivery. He began his professional career selling business machines at Wisconsin Typewriter Company before joining Christie's Printing Co. As the computer age transformed the industry, Jim adapted, moving to ShelDon's large-format and commercial printing business and then EO Johnson. He was grateful to be part of the ShelDon and EO Johnson families.
Jim worked hard, but he also knew how to enjoy life. He and Patty loved spending time at their camper in Gordon, and loved welcoming family, beloved sons, grandkids and friends into their home. With Patty's wonderful Greek and Italian cooking and Jim's easy hospitality, they created countless memorable gatherings.
Jim was happiest when he was active. One of his favorite things was long walks with his beloved pet Hazel at Billings Park or the Point. Over the years he played handball, loved downhill skiing, and developed what could only be described as a slight obsession with pickleball. He and his good friend Randy frequently traveled to pickleball hot spot destinations in Florida and Arizona.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Patty (Bennett); their sons, Ryan and Mitchell (Anastasia); and their cherished grandchildren, Nico, Maree, Roan, and Barrett and his beloved dog, Hazel. He is also survived by his siblings, John Cahill (Pat), Linda Bergstrom (Mark), Michela Brisky, and Rosann Cahill (Donna); his nephew & friend, John Cahill Jr.; and many loved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rose Cahill, Francis Cahill (Gloria) and his brother Jerry Cahill.
There will be a time of remembrance at Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N 34th St. Superior, WI on Wednesday, August 12 at 4:00 PM with visitation starting at 3:30 PM. The Celebration of Life will continue immediately following at VIP, 1201 Tower Ave in Superior.
Patty would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Essentia St. Mary’s–they truly do God’s work. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made directly to the family in his memory.
