Obituary

James R. Gylland, 87, a lifelong resident of Superior, Wis. died Sat., Jan. 29, 2011 in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth, Minn.

He was born Apr. 25, 1923 to Florence (Johnson) and Esten Gylland and was a graduate of Superior Central High School in 1941. Jim served his country in the U. S. Army in the European Theatre and the Signal Corps from 1943-46 during WW II. He was united in marriage to the former Beverly J. Mikiska on Aug. 3, 1946.

His banking career started at the National Bank of Commerce in Superior in 1946. He then moved to the Pioneer National Bank in Duluth, Minn. and retired in 1987 as Assistant Vice President.

Jim was a longtime member of the former Trinity United Methodist Church and was currently a member of Faith United Methodist Church. He had been the church organist at both churches for over fifty years.

He enjoyed golfing at the Nemadji Golf Course on both the Senior League and the Over The Hill League. His other memberships included the Y. M. C. A. and the V. F. W. Post No. 1091. He was a past member of the Duluth-Superior Barber Shoppers and also a past member of the American Guild of Organists.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-four years; two daughters, Linda (Richard) Coluzzi of Geneva, N. Y. and Nancy (Gary) Reiten of Superior; grandchildren, Christina (Jens) Meyer, Tory and Seth Coluzzi and Elida (Matthew) Vandenbergh; great-grandchildren, Cora, Chance, Erik Jan and Annika; a sister, Carol (John) Richter of Rice Lake, Wis.; and nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a grandson, Matthew Coluzzi.

Visitation will Thurs. in the Faith United Methodist Church from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service with Pastor Joel Certa-Werner officiating. Committal prayers will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
