Obituary

James H. "Jim" Cronstrom, 86, of Superior, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital in Superior. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Jim was born on October 31, 1939, to Frances (Arseneau) and Harold Cronstrom in Superior, WI. He grew up on Amnicon Lake, where he spent countless summers surrounded by family, friends, and the natural beauty of the Northwoods.

A graduate of Central High School, Jim proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard before embarking on a long and fulfilling career in the restaurant business. He was the owner and operator of Cronstrom's Supper Club, where his warm personality and culinary creativity made it a cherished local gathering place. Jim's love of cooking went far beyond preparing great meals - it was how he connected with people. He took great pride in sharing his craft, mentoring countless young cooks who, thanks to his patience and encouragement, went on to become accomplished chefs in their own right.

A chef at heart and a true entrepreneur, Jim also helped launch several other restaurants, including The Hickory Pit and 33rd Street Pizza, always blending hard work with heart and humor.

Never one to stop creating, Jim founded Classic Glass, a neon sign company where his artistic eye and attention to detail shone brightly. Through this venture, his neon creations illuminated many local businesses throughout the community - a lasting reminder of his creativity and craftsmanship. In his later years, he discovered a passion for woodworking, crafting birdhouses, pens, and other handmade pieces that he sold or gifted to family and friends - each one made with the same care and creativity that defined his cooking.

Jim also had a lifelong passion for classic cars - owning, buying, selling, and most of all, driving them. He especially cherished time spent on the porch with his beloved partner, Sheila Bennett, sharing quiet moments, building projects together, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Kay, and his sister Elaine Cronstrom.
He is survived by his life partner, Sheila Bennett; his daughters, Nicolle (Mike) Olness and Michelle (Dirk) Johnson; and his grandchildren, Bella and Aiden.

A private service for Jim will be held on Monday, November 17, 2025. A public Celebration of Life will be planned for the spring of 2026.
