James W. Hanson, 63, of 1518 John Ave., Superior, Wis. died Sun., Nov. 15, 2009 in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth, Minn.
Jim was born in Superior on May 31, 1946 and had been a resident for most of his life.
Jim was a graduate of Superior Central High School in 1964 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 1999.
He was social worker for Bayfield County, prior to that he was employed at Diamond Tool in Duluth for many years.
He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. He was also the area representative for foreign exchange students, and had been a foster parent. Jim loved hockey and had been the U.W.S. "bee" mascot. He was a loving and caring person who loved helping people.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Iver O. Hanson and his stepfather, Bill Nordquist.
He is survived by his wife, Karla; a son, Kristofor ( Marcie) Hanson; grandchildren, Benjamin, Keagan and Conlan; his mother, Kathryn Nordquist all of Superior, a half-sister, Bunny (David) Peer of Duluth; half-brothers, Bill (Jane) Nordquist, Jr. of Lyman Lake, Wis. and Brian Hanson of Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Concordia Lutheran Church with Rev. Charles Plaster officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday in Concordia Lutheran Church.
Pallbearers will be Aron Nordquist, Matt and Dustin Peer, and Erik Carlson.
If desired, memorials in Jim's name may be made to either Concordia Lutheran Church, 1708 John Ave., Superior, Wis. or the American Cancer Society, designated for A. M. L. research, 130 W. Superior St., Duluth, Minn. 55802.
