James W. Kirkwood, Jr., 77, of Superior, died Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth surrounded by his family.

James was born on July 18, 1946, son of Delores (Wallin) and James W. Kirkwood, Sr.

Jim served his country honorably with the U.S. Navy.

He worked in the maintenance department for Douglas County and also for Keyport Liquor.

Jim was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles located in Superior. He loved watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed watching Gunsmoke, listening to 70's music, talking about his time in the military, and meeting the north end boys for breakfast. Most important to Jim was spending time with his family.

Preceding him in death were his parents; second wife, Kathleen; siblings, Richard (Mary) Kirkwood, Gerald (Patti) Kirkwood, Debbie Gerding, Donna Ojala, and Cindy Engstrom; and nephews, Jason Kirkwood and Jerry Kirkwood.

Jim is survived by his sisters, Kimberly Bunnell of Superior, and Gina (Joe) Rochon of Solon Springs; brothers-in-law, Gary Engstrom of Waconia, MN and Merrill Gerding, Jr. of Superior;  former spouse and friend, Joan Senn; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be begin at 11:00 a.m. until the Noon service on Thursday, May 16th at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19th St., Superior. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post #435.
