March 5, 1933 – December 23, 2021
James C. Mather, 88, of Barnes, Wisconsin and formerly of Superior, died Thursday, December 23, 2021, at his winter home in Texas.
He was born March 5, 1933, in Superior, son of Rex and Gladys (Calhoun) Mather.
Jim worked as a mechanical engineer until his retirement from the University of Wisconsin – Superior.
On May 31, 1958 in Ashland, WI, James Calhoun Mather married Jean Ann Zeimet.
While in Wisconsin, Jim and Jean attended and were very active in the Barnes Community Church.
Some of Jim's interests included spending time with family and friends, long walks in the woods and water activities, including water skiing well in to his 80's. His biggest past time was projects; he was always fixing or improving something; when he would be caught up on his "to do" list, he would help others with theirs.
Preceding him death were his parents, Rex and Gladys; son, James C. Mather, Jr.; and sister, Mary Pat (Mather)Mueller.
Survivors include his wife of over 63 years, Jean; sons, Scott (Jeanette) Mather; Michael (Linda) Mather; and five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A private graveside service was held at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, on Monday, January 3, 2022. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date.
