Obituary

James E. Powers, 93, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2016 with family at his side.

Jim was born in Superior, WI on December 15, 1922 to James and Ida Powers.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Jim graduated from Superior Central High School and retired from the Great
Northern/Burlington Railroad after many years of service. He served in the United States Navy. Jim was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King.

On May 17, 1952 he married the love of his life, Emily, and together they raised two sons and a daughter. His greatest joy was his family, which included two grandchildren. He loved dancing, music, traveling, amateur Ham radio, and was a jack-of-all-trades. Jim led a good life. He was kind, giving, and will be greatly missed by many.

Preceding him in death was his beautiful wife, Emily; his son, James; his parents; a brother, Lester Bird; dancing partner, Gen Grubba; along with many other loved ones.

Jim will be fondly remembered by daughter, Debbie (Richard) Thompson; son, Thomas Powers; granddaughter, Courtney Thompson; grandson, Michael (Sarah Bergh) Powers and daughter-in-law, Connie Nylund.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to those that provided supportive care to Jim during his final years, including the dedicated staff at Diamond Willow Assisted Living and Essential Health Hospice Care.

Upon Jim's request there will be a private service to honor his life. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post # 435.
