James W.
Rogers
July 14, 1932 – May 30, 2026
James W. Rogers, 93, of Duluth, passed away on May 30, 2026, at Villa Marina in Superior, with his family by his side.
Jim was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on July 14, 1932, the only child of Gabriel and Clara (Khalar) Rogers. He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1950 and married the love of his life, Catherine (Kay) Kelly in 1952. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage before her passing in 2017.
Jim worked as a carman on the DW&P railroad, retiring after 44 years of service. He proudly served in the US Naval Reserves. Jim was an avid Minnesota sports fan, especially the Minnesota Twins and Bulldog Hockey. He enjoyed word puzzles, reading, and playing cards with family and friends, but his favorite retirement activity was golfing at Nemadji with his son, son-in-law, and railroad buddies. Most of all, Grandpa loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were his pride and joy. He never missed their athletic events, fine arts performances, or personal milestones; he truly was their biggest fan.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife.
He is survived by his son, James “JR” (Tina) Rogers of Duluth, MN; daughter, Julie (Tom) Lund of Superior, WI; grandchildren, Amy (Al) Holmstadt, Kathy (Ben) Binder, John Lund and Jim (Katelyn) Lund; and great grandchildren, Macy, Ellie, Everly, Maddie, and Ronan.
We would like to thank the staff at Villa Marina for the loving, compassionate care they provided our Dad.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
