James W.
Sislo
October 21, 1936 – August 31, 2025
James W. Sislo went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 31, 2025, with his family at home. Jim was born in Superior, Wisconsin on October 21, 1936. The son of John and Jennie (Laskoski) Sislo. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 64 years, Patsy, his parents, brothers Bernard and David, and sister Laura Carlson.
Jim is survived by his children Lou Ann (Scott) Stariha of Englewood, FL, Steven (Paula) Sislo of Superior, WI, and Brian (Karen) Sislo of Superior, WI, grandchildren Danielle (Oak) Plestad, Brooke (Dave) Baker, Lindsey (Wes) Kilgore, Megan (Tate) Eliason, Matthew (Karen) Sislo, Chris (Jamie) Sislo, Shawn (Carolina) Sislo, Bethany (Josh) Huray, Scott Sislo, Mike (Tara) Sislo, thirty-one great grandchildren, sister Barb Fisher, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jim started his sheet metal apprenticeship in 1956 with Central Sheet Metal which was owned by the William Cronstrom family. Jim worked there for 40 plus years where he eventually became the owner. He was proud to have the ownership pass to his son, and now to his grandson. Central Sheet metal is over 100 years old and has been in the Sislo family for nearly 60 of those years.
Jim enjoyed his time at the cabin in Herbster, fishing, hunting, gardening, and just being outdoors. He also enjoyed his many hunting trips to Canada with his special friend, Phil Milroy, known as the devious old timer.
He wanted to thank the many helpers and caregivers through Aspirus/St Lukes hospice, especially Donna, Jean and the many hands that cared for him from Tracy's Helping Hands, especially Linda and Christina.
Jim was a man with a big personality with an old-school spirit. He was a hard worker and never shy about sharing his opinions. The very traits that drew people to him could also leave them shaking their heads with a smile saying, "don't take it personal – it's just Jim being Jim". Or more affectionately, "oh, Grandpa…".
He always loved hearing, and retelling, a good story – accompanied by his unforgettable laugh. He deeply loved his friends and cherished his family. Jim leaves a legacy that is evident by the stories his friends and family share about him. Jim was unique. He was special. He was one of one. And he will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 8th from 10:00 until the 11:00 funeral service at Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N 34th St., with Rev. Shawn Sislo officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's name to the Solid Rock Mission, 1004 N 6th St., Superior.
