Obituary

James E. Wickstrom 81, of Superior, peacefully went to meet his Lord Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

Jim was born February 16, 1943, to Isabelle (Quelch) and Clifford Wickstrom in Superior.

He graduated from Central High School in 1961 and joined the US Army in September of 1961.  Jim served for 3 years and was honorably discharged in 1963.

He married Marilyn Lundgren, the love of his life on May 8, 1965, in Superior.  Jim was employed by the Duluth News Tribune for 8 ½ years and then with the Diamond Tool & Horseshoe Company for 21 years until its closure in 1994.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends.  Jim was a handyman who would tackle any project personally or for anyone needing help.  He always kept treats for the dogs in his cupboard even though he no longer had a dog of his own.  Jim will be remembered for always having a joke for every occasion and his love of spending time with his family. He was lovingly known to his great grandchildren as "Tickle Pa".

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; sisters, Valerie McDermott, Nadine Gordon, Caroline Little, and his infant grandson, Brian Winters.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marilyn; his daughter, Lisa (Steven) Winters; his son, James (Nova Nordrum) Wickstrom; grandchildren, Christopher (Alexa) Winters, Emily Winters, Aaron Winters, Brittany Locken, Devin (Abbi) Wickstrom, and Isabelle Wickstrom; his great-grandchildren, Brylee Stone, Luke Wickstrom, Maci Wickstrom, and Skylar James Winters (arriving this fall); his sisters, Beverly (Frank) Gotelaere, Diane Heytens and Linda Darnall; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th St. from 5-7 pm on Monday, April 29, 2024, and will continue at Bayside Baptist Church, 3915 N. 16th St. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service, with Rev. Thomas Bush officiating.
